PRODUCT Detail
Better. Every School Year.
If you like the Cummins ISC8.3, you’re going to really like its replacement, the ISL9. This engine is built for years of bus duty with features such as replaceable wet liners, roller followers, by-pass oil filtration and targeted piston cooling for longer service in the most demanding school bus applications. It uses the XPI fuel system and shares the same Electronic Control Module (ECM) with all other Cummins on-highway engines for powerful, smooth, clean and quiet operation. The ISL9 delivers better. Where it counts.
Better Cost Savings.
We’ve refined the 2013 ISL9 to deliver up to 2% better fuel economy versus the 2012 model. The addition of an air intake throttle makes our EGR system more efficient, while the VGT Turbocharger has been modified for greater efficiency as well. The reduction in parasitic losses increases fuel economy and lowers operating costs.
As a result Cummins ISL9 is meeting the 2014 greenhouse gas (GHG) and fuel efficiency regulations a full year ahead of schedule. Better yet, maintenance intervals and related costs remain virtually unchanged. Heavy-duty components and proven engine systems combine to deliver reliable performance with better fuel economy, delivering a lower total cost of operation to ISL9 owners.
Better Performance.
School bus ratings for the ISL9 range from 260-350 hp (194-261 kW) with a peak torque of 1000 lb-ft (1356 N•m). So bus drivers have more than enough power to pull onto freeways and merge with traffic safely.
New Standards. Proven Technology.
Cummins offers the cleanest ratings available in the school bus industry. Emissions are managed by the proven Cummins Aftertreatment System. In-house development of the entire integrated unit from air handling to exhaust aftertreatment allows us to optimize engine performance and emissions control better than other engine manufacturers.
On-Board Diagnostics are a new feature for 2013, monitoring performance of the aftertreatment system. You can have complete confidence knowing that Cummins will be using an On-Board Diagnostics system that has already been proven highly reliable and effective in thousands of vehicles since 2007. The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) on the instrument panel illuminates when it detects a malfunction related to the emissions control system, alerting the operator that the engine needs troubleshooting and possible repair.
Cummins ISL9 is designed to deliver better performance, reliability, fuel economy and durability. The ISL9 is easily customizable, including many electronic engine features and adjustable parameters. Maintenance is virtually unchanged from previous models. Plus, every ISL9 is backed by the largest and most capable customer support network in the business.
Better. For Years Ahead.
Cummins ISL9 comes with one of the most comprehensive base warranties in the industry. Plus, our new extended coverage plans offer a big advantage for school districts on a tight budget. You can lock in up to 10 years of coverage with complete confidence in its robust design and quality manufacturing.
Cummins ISL9 will help every school district get better grades in 2013.
